West Yorkshire Police Scientific Support Centre

Recently completed, West Yorkshire Scientific Support Centre. The site at Calder Park, Wakefield has been turned into a state of the art Forensic Investigation Support Centre of Excellence which will be home to the Forces Imaging Unit, Scenes of Crime and Forensics Specialists such as the Fingerprint Bureau and the DNA Bureau.

The new building, which is close to J39 of the M1 motorway and took around 18 months to build will help to further enhance West Yorkshire Police's use of the most cutting edge scientific techniques in the fight against crime.

Wates Construction, based in Leeds won the contract to build the new headquarters in January 2010 and made a commitment to providing jobs for local people, and ensuring miles travelled by workers and the materials are kept to a minimum in order to be more environmentally friendly.

This 3 story office / laboratory facility, fully fitted out for West Yorkshire Police was installed on behalf of mechanical contractor Shepherd Engineering Services Limited in Sheffield.

The Building achieved a BREEAM Very Good and incorporates a number of sustainable features including Mitsubishi Electric Ground Source Heat Pumps which will be used to heat the building in winter and cool the building in the summer.  It also included a grey water harvesting system which recycle's water for use in toilets and outside traps. A fully intelligent building management control system ensures carbon emissions are constantly monitored whilst maintaining optimum comfort conditions.

Controlled Air Solutions Supplied & Installed 9 No Mitsubishi Electric Ground Source R2 Heat Recovery System's comprising of 115 Fan Coil's installed throughout the building. Additionally 3 No Mitsubishi Electric Ground Source ‘Y' Series Heat Pump Systems were installed to provide DX Cooling to the Laboratory Fresh Air Handling Units.

The Building's Computer Room and Battery Room's are served by Three Liebert Close Control Downflow System's connected to 3 Roof Mounted Air Cooled Condenser's.

Control of the Building are Via 3 No AG150 Centralised Controllers and Procon Mod Bus IP50 BMS Interfaces.

All areas were completed on time and on budget.

The project installation value was £ 385,000.00.
